Following are a few room environments being built into an upcoming Interactive Fiction game. They are written by me, based on specs provided by my co-author.

2.4.1.1 Foyer
The foyer is warmed by sun sneaking through the small window in the door. At this time of day, the soft glow pools on a photograph - a girl on horseback - then spills down the wall to coat the old carved bench in gold. Jon's shoes are tucked neatly underneath, his jacket on the coat rack. The braided rug on the floor and the faded red umbrella in the stand are remnants of Mary's efforts at decorating, while the mirror over the small table is purely utilitarian. But its simple, clean lines give the little entryway a sense of quiet grace. The stairs up to the bedrooms face the front door, flanked by a hall leading to the kitchen. The livingroom and the rest of the house is to the east.

Variations by time of day and previous actions: Cool moonlight steals through the small window in the front door. It frames the photograph on the wall - a girl on horseback - then spills down the wall to coat the old carved bench in silver.

2.4.1.2 Living Room
The front parlor looks out on the garden through a row of thick-paned windows where you can see the backs of the chairs on the porch. Deep golden-brown hardwood floors set the tone in this room where a faded red floral sofa is pushed up against one wall. It is flanked by a matching end-tables, one holding an old oil lamp. Two wing-back chairs in brown fabric complete the group. Worn spots on the rug in front of the furniture shows nothing has been moved in years. A wooden chair and footrest sit next to a low bookshelf and a glass figurine case on either side of a small fireplace. The foyer is to the west and the dining room is through double-doors to the north.

Variations by time of day and previous actions: thick-paned windows covered by yellowing lace curtains. thick-paned windows where you can see Jessica sitting in one of the old chairs on the porch.

2.4.1.13 Bedroom
Jessica's bedroom is on the southwest corner of the house with a view out to the trees and duck pond. The bed is along one wall, its fluffy pillow in a clean, white case facing the windows. The pink duvet is rumpled up at the footboard. A small herd of Africa-themed wooden toys are lined up on a high shelf. A few framed pictures in crayon also decorate the walls. Some of them have Jessica's name spelled out carefully at the bottom, others say "Love, Mom." The mirror over the white-painted dresser has notes taped around the edges in varying colors and ages of paper. A small bookshelf holds volumes ranging from infant picture books up to romance novels. The closet door on the north is ajar. The door to the hallway is to the east.

Variations by time of day and previous actions: The closet door on the north is ajar, held open by a pile of unwashed clothes. The closet door on the north is closed, a poster is taped to it.
